Issue 6

It’s been quite a month, but LeadsCon has you covered with our monthly roundup! In this edition, the FCC bares its teeth, Guaranteed Rate resonates with Hispanics, and California might be uninsurable.
FCC Makes an Example of VoIP Provider Avid Telecom
On June 7 the FCC issued a cease-and-desist letter to VoIP provider Avid Telecom to terminate their insurance-related robocall campaign. The FCC determined that Avid "is apparently originating illegal robocall traffic on behalf of one or more of its clients." Engadget reports the FTC worked with USTelecom’s Industry Traceback Group, which investigated prerecorded calls that state attorneys general identified as robocalls made without consent. This comes on the heels of a lawsuit from 48 states (and DC) filed late last month against Avid that put the lead generation industry on notice. The newly minted Troutman Amin firm has a thorough breakdown on the suit and the potential ramifications for the industry.
Guaranteed Rate Builds Inroads With Hispanic Consumers
Networking solutions provider Portada has a breakdown on how Guaranteed Rate, the nation’s third largest mortgage lender, has found success connecting with Hispanic consumers. In regards to the complexities of marketing to specific populations Camilo Escalante, executive director of diverse segments for Guaranteed Rate notes “Not one (lender) has a 5% market share. Most do not have a cohesive strategy to retain, engage and reach out to diverse communities. We now have a platform to serve diverse communities better nationwide.”
California Becoming Too Hot to Handle?
Recent decisions by two top insurance carriers to stop offering homeowner policies in California has sparked a broader discussion of how climate change is going to impact the industry. Insurance businesses in California, Florida and Louisiana have been most impacted by this shift. Rising rates could leave coastal new homebuyers looking inland for more affordable options. It’s not all doom and gloom for the sector as reports indicate that Millennials and Gen Z are starting to warm up to this novel idea of insurance.
