Boo! While the U.S. Senate hearing on robocalls was a bit scary and affiliate marketers are spooked by Google’s new analytics, we encourage you to take a breather, eat a mini Snickers, and read this month’s roundup.
U.S. Senate Hearing on Robocalls Lacks Solutions
If you witnessed lawmakers talking technology in the past, then the October 24 U.S. Senate hearing on robocalls probably didn’t come as a surprise. “It was like watching a bunch of fifth graders discussing the problem of robocalls,” writes Eric Troutman of TCPAWorld. The testimony called out the FCC for not protecting American consumers from the scourge of illegal, scam-based robocalls. “Either the FCC does not have sufficient legal tools to stop these unwanted and illegal calls, or it has not yet determined how to deploy those tools effectively,” said Margot Saunders, senior counsel, National Consumer Law Center.
A Busy Month for the FCC
In related FCC news, the commission signed an agreement with Singapore regulators in a cross-border effort to stop robocalls. Ars Technica has a somewhat amusing compilation of a dozen interesting submissions for robocall mitigation plans. The author notes, “Eighteen of the 20 companies that received notices yesterday certified that they hadn't implemented STIR/SHAKEN on any portion of their networks, while two others certified that they partially implemented the technology.”
Rob Seaver Steps Down as CEO of PACE
On October 16, the Professional Association for Customer Engagement announced the resignation of Rob Seaver who served as executive director and was recently appointed to CEO. A terrific ally of the LeadsCon community, Seaver previously served as the executive director of LeadsCouncil, which was renamed the Consumer Consent Council before being acquired by PACE. “I’m tremendously proud of my time managing both LeadsCouncil (Consumer Consent) and PACE. After nearly a decade in the role, I believed it was time to explore other opportunities. I truly love this industry, and my time working with others has been the most valuable of my entire career,” said Seaver in a statement to LeadsCon. PACE is looking to determine next steps for the association’s leadership. Formed in 1983, the association represents over 4,000 contact centers worldwide.
Affiliate Marketers Challenged by Google’s New Analytics
“The digital landscape has experienced a seismic shift with the recent sunset of the widely-used Google Universal Analytics (UA) in favor of Google Analytics 4 or GA4, introduced three years ago this month,” writes Mike O’Brien for Multichannel Merchant. O’Brien recently sat down with Ben Hardt, VP of business intelligence and innovation at X Agency to discuss how the move represents a substantial change for affiliate marketing, attribution, and data analytics. Hardt notes that the impact “has affiliates on the ropes, so to speak.” While we’re here, Hubspot interviewed market experts this month and compiled a list of trendsthat will drive affiliate marketing in 2024.
