Trump Appoints Foxes to Guard the Henhouse in Effort to Dismantle CFPB
Jeffrey Clark and Mark Paoletta, former critics of the CFPB from the conservative think tank Center for Renewing America, were appointed to leadership roles last week. It appears that as part of the massive federal shakeup, the new administration plans to transfer employees from the CFPB and the FDIC to the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency. The Republican Party has long had the CFPB in its sites since the agency’s inception in 2011. While the polarizing agency has had its share of fierce critics and staunch supporters, the loosening of the reins could lead to both industry innovation (woo hoo!) and a proliferation of bad actors (boo!) for the lead generation industry.
Court Approves $1.6M Class Action Settlement in Blue Cross Blue Shield TCPA Case
TCPAWorld broke the news on February 19 that a $1.6 million settlement has been approved in a lawsuit against Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina and Change Healthcare related to illegal robocalls made to wrong numbers and consumers who had opted out. “The class had 1,573 people in it– which means Blue Cross paid over $1,000.00 per class member,” writes Eric Troutman of Troutman Amin, adding that the troubles of BCBS could have been avoided by using the FCC’s Reassigned Numbers Database.
